“Malvi… I… Love you.”
The timid fainthearted I stood in front of the mirror with a perspiring body. I had been practicing saying that line for a long time now, but to no avail.
I had known this girl named Malvi for very a long time now. We had been neighbors since childhood, and were the best of friends. We had been together for our whole life. We enjoy each other’s company fantastically, and the awesome bond that we share, is still intact even after 20 years of our lives. Now, somewhere along these years, I suddenly realized that I had started feeling really special towards Malvi. My heart always used to pound really fast whenever she was around me. It took me some days to figure out that I had fallen in love with her, my best friend. And thus, I find myself practicing confession-sessions with my own reflection. Just then, my phone rang. It was Malvi’s older sister.
“Tonmoy! Malvi… She… She had an accident!”
All of a sudden, the whole world crashed before me. I shuddered, and shouted like a lunatic.
“What?! How?! Is she alright?”
I heard Malvi’s sister sniveling painfully, “A car hit the rickshaw she was riding on. The collision hit her, and she fell on the road, with a terrible fall.. … Tonmoy… Come here quick. She needs you!”
I quickly took down the name of the hospital and ran there. Panicked. That was the best word to describe me at the moment. I didn’t care about anything else happening around the world. All I wanted to do was see Malvi safe. I feared that the one person I truly love, would leave me. No. Malvi… Please don’t die. Please.
As sweat ran across my entire body, sensations of complete trauma ran inside. I rushed in to the room she was in, and prayed to the Almighty. Seeing a small crowd around the bed my sweet Malvi was lying on, I expected the worst. Pushing them away, I came across my best friend’s sweet innocent face, now pale and bloodless, resting on the bed. The crying faces of her relatives told me the story. I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer. Malvi.. Had… Really left me.
I touched her cold lifeless hands, as tears from my droopy eyes fell on the frigidness. The most important person in my life was no longer with me anymore. I felt awestruck at the cruelty of reality. That always happy face of the only girl I ever loved, wouldn’t show me her beautiful smile any more. My panic had reached a dead end climax. I bursted out weeping.Between sobs, I told to her the words I always wanted to say…
“Malvi… I love you. And I always will.”
