Why This Kolaveri Di

Okay, the first time I saw the above link on my homepage, I thought it was some French non-sense. I mean, kola-what? After 99 status updates later and 120 shared links later, I was finally made to browse Youtube for Cola-very!

One hear, two hear, five and ten hears later… I concluded that this song makes no sense what so ever …but is effing hilarious and addictive! I mean…the lyrics is worse than a third grader’s English but the rhythm and the composition of the music is catchy to say the least.

So what exactly is this song about..? I wondered. Kolaveri di- is a frequently used Tamil slang referring to a cranky person. The song itself is a part of the Tamil Movie – “3” due to be released next year. The co-director of the movie is Aishwarya Dhanush, daughter of Rajnikanth, the guy who breathes fire and is known for his out-of-the-world stunts! So, no doubts where the catchiness of the song came from!

Why this Kolaveri Di is sung by the popular Tamil movie star Dhanush and is composed by 21-year old Anirudh, nephew of Rajnikanth. Sony Music India is the producer of this latest sensation and a spokesperson from the network claimed that it is the biggest buzz to hit Indian Youth in years.

Talking stats: Days after its release it went viral on the internet, especially on popular networking sites like Facebook and Twiter. Everytime I log into my account the Kolaveri buzz is still on, the most common status update being: “ COW-U COW-U, HOLY COW-U… I WANT TO HEAR NOW-U” …a part of the song itself. Less than a week upon the release it now boasts about 1.8 million youtube hits and 8.2 million facebook shares. That dear readers is Kolaveri very!

The song relates to a situation in the movie where the actor gets turned down by his beloved and asks. Why this rage, girl?

Karan Johar stated it as the sleeper song blockbuster of the year through his twitter account. Many other celebrities are tweeting on it..expressing their views..further publicing it!

The broken English lyrics basically makes no sense at all but it is the catchy music and the rhythm that makes you feel like pressing the re-play button. An additional “u” after each word seems to me the trend after this song, with facebookers relating to this song as: “addictiveu”. The video itself is teen attractive with a bunch of teens sitting in the studio recording the song, giving a vibrant and realistic picture of the making of the song.

Just as I write, a friend of mine posted on my wall: “WHY THIS KOLAVERI DUDE?”

See what I mean?

Incase you haven’t yet heard this shit:

Have an awesomeu time-u…!
